A false “Fire!” alarm

Call me naïve, to think that even sincere letters to the editor of a newspaper will elicit any response. Call me stupid, to think that such letters will overcome self-interested inertia. But, it was 2002 and I was only 48 years old, not mature enough.

Hence my letter, given below. You may note that I targeted a specific individual, supposedly a person of some accomplishment in science and academia. My grouse was that in his then current avatar, there is no hint of any such accomplishments; he is not even coasting, to be frank about it! Yet, The Hindu pays regular obeisance to him by publishing his rants. I wondered why and that got me to address the editor. Of course, no results. Let that be.

Please note that I am not torturing you further with the enclosure I had mentioned in my letter! Thank this naïve and stupid blogger for that!

It's interesting to know that you were bugged by Hegde for over a decade. I started noticing this writer seriously only after you pointed him out once to me.

I get bugged by people who leverage their status backed up only by their institutional affiliations, and not by any kind of self-worth, in the sharply defined sense,Maftheikal.

Thanks.
